Eclisse is a table lamp designed by Vico Magistretti. Made of painted metal. Winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1967 and has become a classic of Italian design.

It is an object with simple shapes inspired by the miners’ lanterns or thieves, as pointed out the same Magistretti. An idea born in 1963 in metropolitan thinking lantern Jean Valjean, the protagonist of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, a sketch on the back of the ticket and a call to his assistant in the study which described how to combine a couple of balls. In fact, Eclipse is composed of 3 “semifere”. The base, the fixed outer shell and the inner shell mobile through the manual rotation allows to adjust the luminous flux just like in nature makes a moon eclipse. The half ball rotating on its own axis can graduate the light emission.
